One of our biggest religious holidays, the great Ganesha festival (September 19, 2012), also known as 'Ganesh Chaturthi' or 'Vinayak Chaturthi', is celebrated by Hindus as the birthday of Lord Ganesha.

It is observed during the Hindu month of Bhadra (mid-August - mid-September) and the grandest and most elaborate of them, especially in the western India state of Maharashtra, lasts for 10 days, ending on the day called 'Ananta Chaturdashi' (September 29, 2012).
